The Associated Press – HOLLYWOOD, Calif.
(AP) Donald Trump’s wedding in Hawaii to first lady Melania Trump was a disaster, but the bridal party didn’t see it that way.
The Associated Press obtained emails that reveal how the president-elect’s wedding went down at his private club and how his staff tried to distance themselves from his bridal outfit.
Trump’s team told the AP the wedding was supposed to be a celebration of his daughter Ivanka Trump’s birthday and they wanted to celebrate with a “couple that loves each other.”
But the bride’s parents said it was a celebration to celebrate the life of their late father.
The emails were released Thursday by The Associated Review, an online publication of conservative journalism and a partner of the AP that specializes in covering presidential elections.
Trump was married to Melania Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., on Jan. 7.
He was to attend a reception later that day but canceled after he learned of the bridesmaids’ health issues.
He did not attend.
The wedding was a huge success for Trump, who has a huge following among the GOP base.
He received rave reviews from his supporters, who came out in droves to support his wife.
Trump’s wedding was billed as a big celebration of the life and legacy of his late father, Fred.
But his bride’s family had trouble selling the idea that she was his daughter, The AP found.
They were forced to sell the bride’s birthday card, which featured a portrait of her mother.
The couple, from Georgia, said in a statement that Melania Trump is not their daughter, but they are not trying to hide it either.
The couple’s son, Eric Trump, said they were “very disappointed” in the wedding.
He said he and Melania Trump are now focused on making their wedding special for their families and that the couple hopes to celebrate her birthday at a future wedding.
