By Katelyn Haines-Curry, BuzzFeed Staff WriterThe sparkly dress sparkles in the hot sun and looks great on the body, but a Twitter user’s tweet that went viral after it was spotted on the same day as a bride’s wedding dress sparked controversy and a flurry of backlash.
On Saturday, a bride named Tiffany, who lives in Georgia, posted a photo of herself wearing a sparkly white dress with a sparkle on it, captioned: “I’m going to be wearing this dress on my wedding day.
It’s my first wedding ever, but I’m going all out with the sparkles!”
Tiffany’s post drew a huge reaction, with people commenting on how gorgeous the dress was and even going as far as to describe the dress as “sneaky chic.”
The bride also shared a picture of her husband, a doctor who is also a nurse, and asked people to send her a photo when they are ready.
“Thanks to everyone who sent me a pic,” Tiffany wrote in the tweet.
“It’s a big day for me.”
But it was the photo Tiffany shared of herself that sparked a lot of backlash, with some people suggesting the dress wasn’t sparkly enough and a lot more saying it looked too much like a wedding dress.
“It’s not sparkly and it’s not chic, and I don’t know if that dress is,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another Twitter user said: “The dress in the picture is too much of a white dress.
You know, the sparkly color of the dress.
Too much sparkly.””
It has too much sparkle to be sparkly, but it is sparkly,” wrote another.
The backlash sparked by Tiffany’s tweet has caused a social media firestorm, with many Twitter users sharing their thoughts and comments on the post.
Some were surprised at the reaction the dress received.
“Tiffle’s dress has a sparkling effect, but if I wear it at my wedding I’ll be more of a princess than a bride,” wrote someone on Twitter.
Another added: “A girl shouldn’t be allowed to dress in a dress that is not sparkle-filled, so why is this dress allowed?”
“I’m a mom of two girls and I think it’s a little too cute for me to wear this dress at my first day of school, but when the kids are looking at me in awe I will be all over this dress,” wrote a Twitter follower.
Another said: “@Tiffylovethedress: I’m not a princess, but this dress is just too cute!”
“What is wrong with Tiffany’s dress?
It looks cute and it looks classy, and people are still asking me about it!””
The dress has so much sparkles and I love it!
But I think that people should be able to dress how they want,” added another.”
I think Tiffany’s gown is beautiful and classy, but people need to realize that this dress was made by a woman,” one Twitter follower commented.”
The ‘dresses’ look so beautiful and sparkly but they aren’t,” added a third.”
If Tiffany dresses in a white gown, people will look at her as if she’s dressed as a princess.
It doesn’t make me feel like a princess or anything. “
I have a daughter and I can’t stand to be in a black dress.
It doesn’t make me feel like a princess or anything.
I’m glad Tiffany wore a sparkles-free dress, but please, make this dress sparkly again.”
